What Makes an ASTM-Certified Pool Fence Safe
When it comes to pool safety, small details make a big difference. ASTM F2286 is the national safety standard for mesh pool fences — and here’s what that means for your backyard:
Climb-Resistance – No footholds, no handholds — the design should make it impossible for small climbers to scale.
Proper Installation – Whether you choose DIY (less recommended) or professional installation (prefer this route), it’s important that all measurements meet these standards. Our installers are trained to handle that for you — so you don’t have to.
Height – Your fence should be at least 4 feet tall (some San Diego areas require 5 feet) to keep little ones safe.
Pole Spacing – Support poles should be no more than 40 inches apart — this keeps the fence strong and stable.
Gate Requirements – Every gate must be self-closing and self-latching, and open away from the pool. The latch sits at least 54 inches high so it’s out of reach for children.
Clearance & Gaps – There should be no more than 1 inch of clearance between the fence and the ground, and no gaps larger than a 4-inch sphere could fit through.

Angled Raised Panels
Many of our customers have backyards that include changes in the elevation of the deck area. The problem with an elevation change is that a child may be able to climb up onto a higher elevation and over the pool fence. Our unique angled raised panels help address this challenge while simultaneously providing safety and an aesthetically appealing transition for these special situations.
Self Closing Gates
We offer a completely removable, self-closing, self-locking pool gate. Our gates use the industry-leading Magna Latch and Tru-Clos hinges to protect your children from entering the pool area without an adult. Our AquaGuard pool gates are approved by the ASTM and satisfy your area’s local and state codes. Each pool fencing gate also comes with a key-locking option for added security.
Custom Endings
While we recommend having your pool fence go completely around your swimming pool to create a full enclosure, we understand that sometimes this is not possible. We can customize your fencing design to end at a wall or other surface. This can provide a more economical approach when less footage is used while still offering a safe pool barrier for your family.
Stairs & Curved Edges
We can follow the contour of your pool with curved edges or shoot straight across to a house or wall. A poorly installed fence that goes up stairs will have poles that are not appropriately aligned, creating a messy look and waves in the mesh. Our team ensures these sections are installed with the same level of quality as the rest.
